If you are looking for a canoe that is light enough to load by yourself and easy to portage, but big enough to hold your gear, then take a look at the Old Town Pack at Earth Adventures. The 12 foot Pack weighs only 33 pounds but has a carrying capacity of 578 pounds! With the pack you can paddle using a canoe paddle or a double bladed paddle and since it is only 32 inches wide you can easily fit through tiny openings.
